Plans for the Iona in Mission winter trips have
begun! Iona in Mission is a student-led educational service immersion program. Two trips are scheduled for January 2013.
10 Iona students will be heading to Nazareth Farm,
West Virginia. At Nazareth Farm, students will learn about the economic
challenges of Appalachia and engage in service opportunities such as
constructing homes and visiting community members. This week long retreat
experience will focus on the elements of simplicity, community, prayer, and
social justice. Jaime and Rina are the student trip leaders.
12 Iona students will be heading to Peru. Students
will partner with Los Hermanos in Lima, Peru to construct a home and visit
other sites, including an orphanage and school, run by the Christian Brothers.
The group will also visit a true world wonder at Macchu Picchu and learn about
Peru's indigenous history. Sandy is the student leader.
The team members participate in weekly meetings
leading up to the trip and will be involved in various fundraising activities. Please
keep the teams in your prayers.
