Hurricane Sandy

My experience volunteering at Rockaway was moving and left me speechless. No one should ever have to endure such devastation. Providing our help and services allowed for some progress to be made though. I would volunteer again in a heartbeat. - Skylar Burns, 2014

Thanksgiving Baskets

Over 100 Iona College students, faculty, and staff gathered at 4:00 pm on Monday November 19, in Mulcahy Gym in the Hynes Athletics Center, for the seventh annual Thanksgiving Basket Blessing. This year 119 baskets were donated by various Iona College individuals, clubs, teams,  and departments each of whom showed their support by creating their own unique Thanksgiving basket complete with a holiday message to the recipient family.

"Being a part of the delivering the Thanksgiving baskets was a very humbling, yet rewarding experience. The moment we arrived we were able to see the vast amount of appreciation from the community. I consider myself very blessed and donating and delivering these baskets was the least I could do."

Retreat for Busy People

I became involved with the Retreat for Busy People because well, I am a busy person! College has been great this first semester, but without a doubt, an exciting, yet challenging transition. Coming all the way from Florida, I wanted to participate in something that could keep my faith in check! I heard about the retreat and thought it would be great.

The retreat has helped me to realize that God is always listening to me. It's comforting to know that no matter what, whether we're busy, doing good things, or doing bad things, God is always there and will never leave.

I would highly recommend this retreat to anyone looking to connect with their faith. I can guarantee that life becomes such a better and happier experience when you have a little bit of God by your side!- Ashley Hubaykah, 2016

Project Sunshine

Attending Project Sunshine with Campus Ministries was one of the best experiences I have had at Iona. During our time at the hospital, I got the opportunity to participate in an individual room visit, where I spent a couple of hours one-on-one with a child in their hospital room. Even though she was sick, the girl that I visited had such a positive attitude, wonderful sense of humor, and incredible faith, which was truly inspirational to me. This experience has helped me to better appreciate the blessings in my life and and attain a clearer perspective on what truly matters in life. I am so thankful that I had this opportunity and experience, and hope to be able to go on another Project Sunshine in the future! - student Eva Renski, 2014

Make A Difference Week

I had a great time participating in Habitat for Humanity. (September 30) Learning about the families that are going through hardships and that need the assistance of Habitat for Humanity to facilitate them in overcoming the obstacles that they are enduring, was heartwarming. I was assigned to paint a foster parent's house. After I completed the task, I felt content because I knew that I was helping a parent in need. - Iona student, Yanissa
